My first float trip on the Jacks Fork River was from Shawnee Creek to Two Rivers during the summer of 2008 with two friends. One of my friends was pregnant at the time. But we created a comfortable place for her to sit in the bottom of the canoe on several seat cushions. A short trip was appropriate, but still in all, it was all good. The Jacks Fork swept us along at a smooth and steady pace. Paddling was really only necessary when the captain sitting in the middle became concerned that we might run over a turtle or something, and to stay pointed in the right direction.

The water was crystal-clear. We watched several large bass as they swam close to our canoe, probably looking for a free hand out with no hook. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous. Wildlife was everywhere. We saw several deer drinking from the river. We also saw quite a few turtles sunning themselves on tree limbs that stuck out of the water. And even though it was hot elsewhere during the middle of the day, the cold river water cooled the warm breeze, and a canopy of shade trees made it a very peaceful, relaxing, and enjoyable trip. We took lots of photos and had a fantastic time. As a matter of fact, if you’ve explored the Two Rivers Canoe Rental website, and watched the slide shows, you’ve seen many of the photos that we took on our journey.

Needless to say, I’m hooked. I can’t wait for the next floating season to begin.
